Constructively Stoned presents: Jackie Bryant
Cut away from that first post-shutdown smoke-out where Cannabitch joined my weed reality

In the spring of 2021 I was finally able to put a name to the voice of Jackie Bryant. A San Diego-based writer and editor, Bryant has the voice I most associate with no-bullshit reporting on California cannabis: quizzical, cynical and not-so-low-key Long Islander-y.

She’s managing editor of San Diego magazine, host of The Plant Lady podcast, and a freelance news feature scribe whose work you’ve read in outlets like the San Francisco Chronicle and the New York Times. That time when we first met in LA’s Arts District, Bryant’s Cannabitch writing was all I knew. It was vital and honest and just so damn voice-y, ignoring it would be impossible.
Tammy The Cannabis Cutie was there and I rolled a joint as poorly as possible. No excuse. A lot of weed-famous people were in the house, and it’s Jackie whose journey I most closely follow. She’s a mother now, and hearing about the roles weed has and hasn’t played will provoke some kind of response from you.
We had some laughs that night in the Arts District and we have had fun, smoke-filled times since. This podcast is the sound of a good time we had on Zoom, in November. I was smoking an infused pre-roll in Fresno. Jackie punctuated many a strong point with a hit from a jumbo bong as she sat outside her San Diego home.
