Not permanently are the posts over, but they’re definitely done through the big holiday.
I’m spent, so there will be no Christmas Day newsletter, despite previous Substack statements. But here’s some the travel narrative that you missed:
“I just got off parole and I can’t wait to get back to Florida,” said the bald skinny man with fucked up teeth. He looked like a methier John Malkovich. It was Wednesday morning and I was leading a blind man to an unmarked bus stop in lovely, rustic Eureka. California. Fugazy John Malkovich was helping me out.
A couple days earlier I’d learned there was no available Amtrak service to Tacoma, where I had been invited to spend Christmas. So, I had to take Greyhound. Only after purchasing my ticket did I realize the my route would look like this:
That’s more than 24 hours on the road.
Between the Oakland stop and Sacramento I received a text telling me that the night’s hound to Washington was canceled. That meant scrambling to find someone to crash with, only so that I could wake up early and catch the first bus to Tacoma.
Look for MSNBC legal analyst Jordan Rubin and filmmaker Lev Anderson in your mailbox on Wednesday.
Words from my Florida-bound ex-parolee popped into mind: “I’ve got a long way to go.”
That last leg was indeed long, but I am here in Washington and having a blast learning new things about myself and healing certain wounds.
I am not writing a bunch.
However, I did some podcast work today. Look for MSNBC legal analyst Jordan Rubin and filmmaker Lev Anderson in your mailbox on Wednesday. Both are competing with me in the semi-finals of my Coastal Elite fantasy football league. (Bizarro author Rubin is in Jersey and Anderson is a Portland dude) These are the quick, talented humans who will disprove the idea that fantasy football is inherently uninteresting to those not playing the game.
At least, they’ll be doing this for the paid subscribers.
Also this week: keep an eye open for COIL Yoga’s Katie Flinn Sojourn Q&A. Listeners to Katie’s podcast ep are more smart and calm than they were clicking on that page.
Happy Christmas. Talk soon.
