This newsletter began in October of last year. I’ve kept it primarily among friends. The superior rate at which y’all have opened West Coast Sojourn email convinced me there’s a broader community of potential readers. They don’t all live on the West Coast, they don’t all smoke weed.
So, now I’m reaching out to these humans. And it would be awesome if you assisted in making the connection.
To open, there’s that subscribers referral program. Get three of your peeps to subscribe and I’ll give you a month of free access to everything I post. If you get me seven subscribers, that’s three months of access. If through some insane sequence of events you steer 25 subscribers my way, I will make sure you have six months of uncut West Coast Sojourn content, on me.
And here’s the amazing part: I’ve only been warming up, just learning how to play this Substack game.
Here’s the other marketing component. I’ve been slightly screwed on social media since rashly quitting Twitter last fall. (Fuck that guy.) TikTok is a place where I’ve been getting active.
My newest post gives a quick look at the site’s features and a sense of the Sojourn sensibility. Sharing this video on your preferred social networking platform is another way to help out with readership building. It’s surprising how many folks still don’t know about the newsletter form of journalistic storytelling. I’m excited at the prospect of exposing a dope and timely newsletter to people in your orbit who are like that.
So, again, a potential reader need not dwell between Seattle and Mexico City. (Major shout out to the subscribers in France!) And this human doesn’t have to be a stoner to benefit from West Coast Sojourn. (Though, scientifically speaking, it would be a lot cooler if they were) They just have to be curious about a vibrant, influential and intangible place in American life.
Also, it would be useful if they were into podcasts.
