I once went to a Howard Dean event
Until this week, it was the most political energy I’d experienced in one space
That was 20 years ago, a grass-roots gathering at a forgotten LA nightclub. In my opinion, if it hadn’t been for “The Scream”—far more unfair grounds for campaign rejection than what President Biden faced—that coalescing energy would have taken Dr. Dean to victories over John Kerry and, eventually, George W. Bush.
The next-best election energy I’d known flowed through the historic Obama run. It happened that I was in France when he visited Paris in 2008, and the extent that that nation and that city got to buzzing absolutely blindsided me. The reality of international Presidential campaign buzz was beyond my comprehension. Barry O generated that REAL rock star shit.
Upon returning to LA, I went to work canvassing the city for campaign funds, even rejoined the party. Democrats were electric in their doorways. Super amped up.
But I’m uncertain that these examples are greater that what’s happened with the Vice President since Sunday. Check out the Harris Wisconsin event from earlier today.
Even before her winning and vigorous speech, you can hear and see Wisconsin Democratic figures gathering energy from the prospect of a Harris Presidency. A viewer feels all of the angst and despair harbored over the past month slingshot back out as realistic hope.
We cannot know with certainty, but I’m pretty damn sure that Wisconsin fervor could not have been generated by the current President. Races all over America are being altered in the wake of the Democratic Party’s ticket change at the top.
Don’t believe me? If you can stomach it, check in on Fox News. The tone is both a mess and voluble, speaking lots of unintended truth. They shook.
Energy is nearly everything.
Why is 👇🏿 happening?
Usually it’s just paid subscribers who read to the end of my posts who see this tip bit. There is using is usually a self-effacing line about gratuities here. Like, I watch Fox so you don’t have to.
Or, I might make an allusion to value provided on this here Substack. I don’t actually have a line this time and this email is a freebie. Yet, there’s that Venmo do-hickey.
Huh. Go figure.
"I watch Fox so you don't have to"
I mean, that's hilarious! but as soon as I'm reemployed I'll be tippin' cuz God *Damn* no one should have to do that. Not even the soul of Roger Ailes in hell (well...).
How do we get Cori Bush added to this ticket? Asking for a nation.
