Say high to the first WCS Last-Minute Gift Guide
Plus, 'The Holly' auteur's podcast episode & my Black-Ass Friday gimmick
As mentioned, the conversation is off for Thursday. Fret not though. Enough compelling WCS content is coming to make that little absence worth enduring.
For starters, I’m using Capitalism Friday to make some content visible for free. Specifically, those Monday emails that paid subscribers peruse in full will be available to everyone through the weekend.
Should be good like leftover fried chicken. You’re welcome.
Dead up on the freebies will be my interview of Julian Rubinstein, author of the powerful Denver crime and corruption book The Holly, and director of the fascinating, Oscar long-listed documentary of the same name. My comradeship with Julian reaches past his making the first pass at my Ghetto Celebrity manuscript; he lived a couple of blocks from the Manhattan offices of ESPN The Magazine. We’ve had so many laughs.
I’ve followed his effort to pull off his two entwined projects for damn-near a decade. So, he and I are able to get into pretty good depth. How Adam McKay came to executive produce The Holly is funny.
Paid subscribers get to hear us chat, same as with Madison Margolin.
And then there’s the WCS Last-Minute Gift Guide’s debut. Just before Christmas I’m going to lay out a freebie guide to the best cannabis-related products… that my industry contacts decide to send me.
These weed gift guides are always an adventure. Last time I did one I was so stoned for so long that I ended up winning the first of my recent awards. I’d like to think that, along the way, I helped a few people surprise their favorite cannabis fan.
Pray for peace at Thanksgiving, if you celebrate and pray. (I pray to the universe)
