State of the sojourn
Life’s hectic. I need a day or so to cope
Shit is super stressful. Today, let me break form and just yammer without structure at my most consistent readers.
I need a WCS break because I am going through debilitating tech struggles. Because my shit ain’t really working right now, the promised conversation with psilocybin testing leader Reggie Harris—
—will have to land on Friday afternoon, not today. The Friday newsletter might not hit until Saturday morning.
Harris is the psychonaut behind Oakland Hyphae, a psychedelics brand with an excellent origin story and a leading-edge reputation. His hour or so with me and Lev is the kind of content that’s hard to find away from this here Substack.
Couple of good things happening in my work life outside of Substack:
I have a big legacy-brand reporting credit set to come out later this month. It’s nice to play a part of a cool little story that’s guaranteed to be widely read. Speaking of legacy brands, last weekend’s High Times piece on my Reagan-era escapades is a hit, I am told.
The conversation around a 12-year-old’s consumption hasn’t been as robust as I expected. Apparently more functional people started hella young than I recognized.
Anyway, the prospect of more and better work is a very real thing. I have a 2026 business scheme that I deeply believe in. And the collegial homey reading My film script is deep into Act II and amped about the promise of the thing.
It’s right now that is kinda fucked.
Listen: I pride myself on starting up in cold weather, as an old editor once described how I get down. It physically upsets me to miss a newsletter deadline. But I am getting knocked off my mark in this moment.
To adapt a line you know, a great way to support a return to form is via Venmo and/or by becoming a paid subscriber.
The Friday newsletter is halfway done. Here’s something on the disparity between Washington and Oregon wealth and our rivers’ roles in it.
