Hellooooo subscribers and friends who are subscribers. I'm briefly breaking from a longform writing project to say that the value of you recommending West Coast Sojourn today would be inestimable. Not that one shouldn’t enjoy the content on its own terms, but lots of famous names get WCS in their mailbox, as I am what gets called a writer's writer.
Which only means that nailing down a commercial constituency has been hard af because I insist on using words like "inestimable," in context of covering hip hop and weed and whatnot. Nevertheless, folks who like what I've been up to on Substack tend to really like it, opening my emails at 3x what's considered good. (Thank you!) The exposure brought about by a bunch of recommendations would improve my quality of life.
In 2025, I’m reaching for a different Substack tone, one that fits our new era of American life. An aspect of the freshness comes from freshly-picked Portland co-host Lev Anderson and a range of excellent guests that we’ve lined up for the new + improved West Coast Sojourn podcast.
WCS is also available on Spotify.

This note is mainly to remind you about that screenplay. The last weeks of Draft 1 completion are upon me, and the exorbitant price of focusing on a single spec project over many months is staring me in the face.
Listen, I dwell in LA, where everyone knows a wildfire victim with a GoFundMe campaign. Times are uncertain as can be. Support my impractical ambitions with money if you are able. If that's not something you can do, enjoy the campaign’s project updates, which take you inside my development process.
And if you've already helped the film project move forward, you rule. There are so many reasons to not focus on longform, and your help pushes against that.
