WCS 41: Kamala Harris & Gretchen Whitmer are… The Killer Replacements
Too, OnlyFans grinders + Cali's hate crime jump + critiquing Bronny James
The tribulations we feel in American political life these days are a natural part of this young nation’s awkward adolescence. When you’re a rich kid born out of genocide and slavery, you should have a rough road to hoe.
Finally, this country’s race buttons might be pushed the right way.
Trump is the abusive juvenile delinquent that America might marry after all, and it’s hella scary for everyone watching.
Joe Biden’s going to call it a wrap very soon. My call is it happens on Monday, unless the President’s team does actually provide him with a shot of something especially stimulating and he totally kills in his scheduled interview with George Stephanopoulos.
Have you thanked Joe Biden yet, for faltering in June, rather than October?
What a stressful fall we were going to have if The Man from Scranton hadn’t shit the bed on CNN. Add the way Covid’s coming back to the wildfire stress we’ll inevitably be just coming off of, we’d be too on edge and crazy to do a Biden stumble wait.
If Joe happens not to quit, we ought to be on teen suicide alert. There’s not gonna be an alert though. Joe is going to deliver the buddy cop dramedy that we’ve been thirsting for.
I can already see the Kamala Harris-Gretchen Whitmer campaign yard sign design. It steals from Bad Boys and Lethal Weapon. Finally, this country’s race buttons might be pushed the right way.
10 Cali legal weed shaken by pesticides report
Alex Halperin and I had a drink down in Long Beach on Wednesday night. It was impossible to not discuss the cannabis industry’s reaction to his and the LA Times’ blockbuster June investigation.
Concerns that legal weed might have more pesticides in its products than previously thought isn’t something that your bud tender or neighborhood cannabis CEO is going to be yammering on about in public. The fact is, the piece has hit the industry hard.

Retail outlets and other cannabis companies are “scrambling to regain the confidence of consumers,” says MJ Biz Journal.
The state’s Department of Cannabis Control, which oversees testing, has become the focal point of industry ire.

An Emjay Award, please
Possibly my favorite person in San Francisco cannabis told me a couple of days ago that they nominated me for an MJBizCon Award, an Emjay. I felt deeply flattered.
And then I felt the urge to connive, because I do think of myself as the Cannabis Journalist of the Year. (Every year, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.) West Coast Sojourn is a different kind of Substack. And beyond the elite stoner shit that I say and write about here, my 2022 industry fairness series stands up, years later. Overall, my journalism is a mix of Weed World and Real World reportage, always inspired by cannabis.
I put you on to where Kendrick was coming from before most reporters even noticed this giant story. Never mind my other musical treats for the scene.
I might pop out anywhere, and you know you’re seeing your people. With a sometimes-misunderstood humility I tell you that I would like your Emjay Award vote.
MJBizCon almost certainly didn’t have a reporter like me in mind when they conceived of the standout scribe in their “international cannabis award” category. A Donnell Alexander win would be a fun surprise and useful message to send the industry in December.
9 Hardwood racial Rorschach tests
Football is the nation’s most popular sport. Pro hoops is where our racial issues playout. The ongoing dialogue about the meanings of Caitlin Clark in the WNBA have become basketball’s most visible scrum.
But let’s not sleep on the dearth of white American men’s pros, long my fave sports microcosm. Listening to Rex Chapman talk about his Great White Hope Experiences is a strong reminder.
