An Emjay Award, please

Emjay Award

Possibly my favorite person in San Francisco cannabis told me a couple of days ago that they nominated me for an MJBizCon Award, an Emjay. I felt deeply flattered.

And then I felt the urge to connive, because I do think of myself as the Cannabis Journalist of the Year. (Every year, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.) West Coast Sojourn is a different kind of Substack. And beyond the elite stoner shit that I say and write about here, my 2022 industry fairness series stands up, years later. Overall, my journalism is a mix of Weed World and Real World reportage, always inspired by cannabis.

I put you on to where Kendrick was coming from before most reporters even noticed this giant story. Never mind my other musical treats for the scene.

I might pop out anywhere, and you know you’re seeing your people. With a sometimes-misunderstood humility I tell you that I would like your Emjay Award vote.

MJBizCon almost certainly didn’t have a reporter like me in mind when they conceived of the standout scribe in their “international cannabis award” category. A Donnell Alexander win would be a fun surprise and useful message to send the industry in December.
