WCS 46: The state champ football coach factor
w/: X exodus + Palm Springs reparations + Van Zant to direct Gawker movie!
I write this Sojourn newsletter introduction as someone who still addresses their high school cross country coach as Coach Logue.
Minnesota Democrat Tim Walz isn’t compelling because he looks the part of a successful football coach. He’s actually turned a zero wins against 26 losses rural high school bunch into a Minnesota champion squad. Not an actor, Coach Walz knows how to maximize American potential, ways to get a team playing beyond its individual capacities.
Adversity has habitually kicked liberal ass. I feel like that’s not going to be rewarded or even allowed anymore.
The coincidence of election season and football season has been a GOP advantage since God knows when. I can remember being at a Tennessee Titans game the weekend before the 2000 election. When I saw fewer Al Gore signs than George Bush signs in the pre-game tailgate, I knew that Al Gore would be dead meat in his home state on Tuesday.
That’s not the case in 2024. And it’s a main reason why Republicans are shook. One year after Taylor Swift blew the NFL’s young female market wide open, a heroic Minnesota football coach has a devastating potential that polling isn’t prepared to quantify.
Before we hit the 10 news dealios, let’s credit Oakland’s most famous representative for coming out of the campaign gates with “When We Fight, We Win” as her campaign slogan. With a set-up that deep into the political grappling tradition, she almost had to select Hilz.
But also, parking may be an unsolvable problem
“L.A. may not have monumental settings as romantic as the Eiffel Tower, Versailles or the Grand Palais, but this city has its own storied venues and natural landmarks (and many, many logos) that should still make for an enviable Olympics host location.”
10 How real is the talk of Rui for Jerami?
The Portland Trailblazers and Los Angeles haven’t made a trade in four decades. It’s almost as if the two front offices dislike each other as much as their fan bases.
Locked On Lakers
Jerami Grant is presently the poster boy for high scorer on a crap team. Blazers expert Mike Richman relishes shit-talking Grant’s defense in a way that would give even fans of the 6-10 forward pause.
Rui Hachimura—whose defense is not good—has been making strides as an offensive threat. That Portland would also ask for a first-round pick in a deal for Grant is a no-go for me.

In Tokyo, the U.S. women’s basketball team had only two mothers on the team: Diana Taurasi and Skylar Diggins-Smith. Now there’s five parents.
