(Editors’s note: This February post oddly began with a bit of news that I think set off Kendrick Lamar. Enjoy.)

It’s a sign of advertising and marketing’s primacy in Internet communication that when I caught the Drake boner bop video I soon after started looking for new product of his to drop.

Anything to get an edge.

Nowhere is getting an edge in advertising and content strategy more critical than in the world of legal weed. This week’s Sojourn guest is Kaisha-Dyan McMillan, an advertising person going back to her days at pre-tech boom San Jose State.

Kaisha-Dyan McMillan

Now the senior content manager for cannabis production platform AROYA, McMillan took me back to a time and place in Bay Area advertising that bears little resemblance to today’s landscape.

We first met in real life at a cannabis event for women that she put on in an upscale-but-accessible space in Berkeley. I came away from the Sunday afternoon event thinking every town in America could use one of these. Some places, three or four of them.
