Zeus Tipado is on that OTHER other shit
At the intersection of psychoactive drugs and technology sits The Stoned Gamer, now a PhD candidate in the Netherlands
In every way, Zeus Tipado goes harder on psychedelics than I do. Or you.
Zeus Tipado
I’m sort of an every-person tripper. Like, say I get too into the drink at a Griffith Park tea party and start to feel flames on my face? That’s where I dial back my consumption. Tipado though knows how to flash past that section and really delve into the psychedelic experience’s power and mystery.
In the wide-ranging and revealing discussion that follows, the Cajun Country native explains that his first psilocybin dose was heroic. So was the very public E3 Expo—rest in peace—trip that brought Tipado to his present PhD studies in psychopharmacology at Maastricht University.
There are so many microdosing coaches and courses and webinars and websites that claim—very erroneously—that micro-dosing can help with this, with that, with a laundry list of things: It can help with depression. It can help with your energy, it can help with your sleep. There is zero evidence that microdosing can help with any of those things.
Zeus Tipado first came to my attention as the force behind The Stoned Gamer League, an underground landmark of the 2010s, both online and live from Los Angeles. In 2019, I pursued him for a WeedWeek podcast appearance. In retrospect, it’s better that I waited to record a conversation with the man; I’d only a superficial understanding of where this psychonaut was headed.
I had not seen this specific neuroscience turn coming, until his post on Former Twitter grew more scientifically detailed. Today I know that Zeus has a science masters from South Wales—to go with his matching BAs—and, perhaps as significantly, grew up with voodoo in his home, both of which inform his investigations.
Aphex Twin is also in the mix. You’ll have to watch and listen to learn more on that one
Tipado spoke with me via Zoom from Maastricht on Wednesday morning, PST.
