It is mentioned in the new video above that Altadena author Jervey Tervalon lost his home in last week’s Eaton fire. Pay special attention to that part.
A few months ago, Jervey invited me to do something with my screenwriting project at Pasadena’s May Litfest, and that little bit of encouragement helped move my tiny, aspirational project into a number of promising places. I am very grateful.
If you can assist Jervey Tervalon’s household in getting back on track it would be appreciated.
Not Like Us
While Altadena and LA are prominent in my thoughts, the hard fact is that Portland, San Francisco, Oakland, and now Sacramento have been my scenes over the past week. Before Southern California and my personal life are even put into the mix my brain has been busy. Nevertheless, I’ve been writing, lots. Working on the aforementioned screenplay.
The lines have been going into two notebooks, not Final Draft. Not yet. It’s important that I have a tactile relationship with a document like this. (Maybe not important, but it’s at least a good-energy thing) Yesterday in Oak Park, I started dealing with an Act Two issue—I’m starting in the middle—and today my pages went into the opening notebook.
I’ve no idea when I’ll get into the third.
Let me send you off with a poem that friend and former West Coast Sojourn podcast guest Roger Guenveur Smith posted to social media on Monday. When the hours begin to feel too much like a countdown to apocalypse, take a moment to think our spectacular forebears.
I’m Like what I’m doing? Feel free to contribute to my travel budget.
